
Komets, Colorado Agree on New Two-Year Affiliation

Fort Wayne, IN-- The Fort Wayne Komets and Colorado Avalanche announced Tuesday that they have renewed their affiliation with a new two-year agreement for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.
The Komets and the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League will serve as affiliates of the Avalanche. This season will mark the second consecutive season the NHL's Avalanche has been affiliated with the ECHL's Fort Wayne Komets.
"The Komet organization is honored and very excited about our new two-year affiliation with the Colorado Avalanche," Fort Wayne general manager David Franke said. "We had a very good agreement with them last year and they were at the top of our list this summer to continue the relationship. "Craig Billington, assistant general manager, and David Oliver, player development director, are great to work with and they understand the value of a good affiliation to both the Avalanche and their AHL affiliate, San Antonio, and the Komets.
"This two-year deal will allow all parties to better utilize their efforts on player personnel during the season and next summer. Head Coach Gary Graham will attend San Antonio's training camp to get a relationship built with the players coming to Fort Wayne."
Last year the Komets reached the 100-point plateau for the first time since 2009-10 (48-18-6, 102 points) under the direction of Coach Graham for a successful debut as an affiliate of Colorado.
2015-16 marks the 20th season since the Avalanche began play in Denver in the NHL. Colorado's home games are played at the Pepsi Center in downtown Denver. The Avalanche made their NHL debut winning the 1996 Stanley Cup Championship and claimed their second Stanley Cup title in 2001. Colorado's home games are held at the Pepsi Center in downtown Denver. The Avalanche will open the season hosting Minnesota Oct. 8. Colorado operates under the direction of team president Josh Kroenke, executive vice president/general manager Joe Sakic and head coach/vice president of hockey operations Patrick Roy.
The Rampage will be opening their 14th season in the AHL at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas, when the puck drops on 2015-16. San Antonio captured the West Division title in the AHL's Western Conference while setting franchise records for wins, goals and points in a season.
The 64th season of Komet hockey starts with a home-and-home series against long time rival Kalamazoo. The Komets skate at Kalamazoo Friday, Oct. 16 for the season opener. Then the Komets will face the Wings for the Fort Wayne home opener Saturday, Oct. 17 at 7:30pm. -Komets Schedule-
