Albany/Indiana Firebirds News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana Firebirds Owner, Dave Lageshulte, has named John Kolner the team's General Manager, following an eight week period where he served in an interim role for the Arena Football League franchise.
Kolner, who will represent the team on the league's Board of Directors, will continue to assist first-year Head Coach Steve DeBerg and his staff with all player personnel matters and will oversee all the day-to-day operations of the front office. Kolner is the longest tenured member of the Firebirds front office, beginning in 1994 as an intern in Team Operations.
Kolner has spent the past eight seasons with the Firebirds, the last two as Assistant General Manager. Prior to that he was Vice President of Operations where he was responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the team, which included marketing, game operations, public relations and advertising functions. Throughout his time with the Firebirds, Kolner has served as Director of Media Relations, Merchandise Director, Game Operations Director, and Ticket Sales Director.
"John has shown throughout the years his dedication and commitment to the Firebirds organization", commented Lageshulte. "It was an easy decision for me as an owner to let him be the one to lead our team from this point forward. John knows as much about this business as anyone we talked to, so I am confident he will work hard to get this franchise back to one of the elite teams in the AFL".
Kolner is a 1994 graduate of Siena College with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing Management. Originally from Albany, NY, he currently resides in Indianapolis with his wife Julie.
