Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
MIDLAND - Southpaw Jared Koenig captured his fifth win of the season with six strong innings Wednesday night as the RockHounds edged the Hooks, 3-2, at Momentum Bank Ballpark.
Corpus Christi outhit Midland, 11 to four, but the club stranded seven and hit into two double plays, to go along with two additional outs on the bases.
David Hensley cracked a pair of doubles, accounting for the Hooks two extra-base hits. Hensley's two-out, two-bagger in the first handed CC a 1-0 lead.
The RockHounds countered with two runs in the home half against Brett Daniels, before plating the decisive run in the fourth. Devin Foyle laid down a bunt base hit to start the inning and, one out later, Collin Theroux drove a doubled into the left-field corner for the third Midland run.
The Hooks cut it to 3-2 in the fifth when Corey Julks scratched out a lead-off single. Grae Kessinger was next and laid a bunt base hit down the third base line. Kessinger was caught off the bag for the first out after the throw from Koenig sailed into foul ground. Julks advanced to third on the play and then scored on a two-out single by Joe Perez, who penned his third consecutive two-hit game.
Jack Weisenberger and Aaron Brown teamed to blank the Hooks over the final three innings with Brown picking up his ninth save in as many tries.
Pitching in relief for CC, Felipe Tejada struck out the side in the fifth and lefty Jonathan Bermudez retired all nine RockHounds he faced.
The Hooks, who have won five of their last eight, send Jimmy Endersby to the mound Thursday night. First pitch 7 p.m.
