Columbus Cottonmouths News Release

Berkley Scott scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Knoxville Ice Bears picked up the extra point in a 2-1 (2-1 SO) win over the Columbus Cottonmouths.

The two teams needed nine turns to complete the shootout. Columbus got a shootout goal from Levi Lind. In addition to the clincher, Knoxville got a shootout goal from Ryan Salvis.

The Cottonmouths were stymied by the Ice Bears' netminder Braely Torris, who stopped 33 shots during the victory. The solid play of Torris will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.68.

Columbus' power play was ineffective against Knoxville's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

By firing 34 shots on goal, the Ice Bears exceeded the 20.8 shots they average per game this year.

Knoxville was helped by Salvis, who had one goal. Salvis scored on the power play 5:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Knoxville. The Ice Bears had taken the advantage when the Cottonmouths' Neilsson Arcibal got sent off for tripping. Jason Price assisted on the tally.

Columbus relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Craig Simchuk, Shawn Bates and Arcibal took 18 of the team's 34 shots.

More assists for Columbus came via Mike Switzer and Max Cook, who contributed one each.

Knoxville incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Andrew Loewen made 32 saves for the Cottonmouths on 33 shots. Columbus incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
