Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS. (February 7, 2015) - The Pensacola Ice Flyers fall to the Mississippi RiverKings in Southaven on Saturday night with a final score of 3-2 at the Lander's Center on a night that featured "Pink in the Rink" with Mississippi wearing pink jerseys benefitting the Wing Cancer Foundation.
Following last night's loss to the RiverKings at home, the Ice Flyers decided to start backup goalie Andrew Flemming between the pipes. On the other end of the ice Mississippi went with Adam Corchaine in net.
In the first period Pensacola had a couple of power play opportunities with separate minor penalties to Daniel Sobotka but were unable to capitalize on either. It wasn't until late in the period that the RiverKings would be the first on the board with just 1:52 remaining with a goal by Jason Holka. Mississippi's 1-0 lead would hold until the first intermission.
RiverKings momentum carried over into the second. Just over halfway through the period they were outshooting the Ice Flyers 8-2. With seven left to play, Pensacola's Nick Larson and Mississippi's Mike Hayward would drop the gloves. However, Larson's original minor penalty for roughing would give the Riverkings the power play that they would take advantage of just 1:10 in with a goal from Sobotka to make it 2-0.
Only 1:24 after giving up the power play goal, Ice Flyers' Brett Lutes would score shorthanded to put Pensacola back within one goal. Pensacola would again head to the locker room down by one.
Nick McParland would even the score just 1:31 into the final period with an assist to Nick Larson. Not long after Mississippi would retake their lead with a goal by Devin Mantha from Liden Bahm and Reid Campbell at the 4:24 mark.
With regulation time running down, Pensacola pulled Flemming from the net with 0:42 remaining. Adam Pawlick managed one shot on net with the extra man, but the RiverKings would hold on to win with a final score of 3-2.
Shots on goal were 26 for Mississippi and 25 for Pensacola.
