Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, Louisiana - Another night, another heartbreaking loss for the Louisiana IceGators. After holding a 2-1 lead midway through the second period, the Knoxville IceBears scored two unanswered goals late in the frame to beat the IceGators 3-2.
"It's another tough loss," said IceGators head coach Kevin Kaminski. "We played very well in the first and third periods. In the second period, we just tried to be too fancy, and turnovers cost us."
Knoxville took a 1-0 lead 28 seconds into the first period on a Mike Towns goal. Josh Duplantis tied the game later in the period with his first goal at home as an IceGator. The IceGators gained the lead almost two minutes into the second on a Josh Boyd goal. The IceBears responded, tying the game on an Emory Olauson six minutes into the frame. Knoxville regained the lead a few minutes later on a Berkley Scott score. The IceGators outshot the IceBears 14-6 in the third, but missed opportunities and a strong IceBear defense kept both teams scoreless in the period.
Kaminski did pick up on a few strong points in his team's game. "I was encouraged by our work ethic," he said. "I thought we played our systems well. We just have to get a little more hungry. Everything we do, whether it's an opportunity to score or get the puck in deep or finish checks or block shots, we have to do those things just a bit better."
The IceGators and the IceBears will play again Friday night in the Cajundome. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 P. M. The IceGators are hosting Girl Scout night. All Girl Scouts in attendance will receive a commemorative patch. Next Friday, the IceGators will host the Mississippi Surge. Troy Landry from "Swamp People" will be in attendance. Tickets are still available for those games.
