Augusta RiverHawks News Release
The Augusta RiverHawks would not be denied Thursday night at the James Brown Arena as they defeated the Fayetteville FireAntz 4-1. The RiverHawks rattled off four straight goals after falling behind in the first period to secure the victory.
RiverHawks forward Lucas Labelle made a triumphant return to the CSRA following a 12-week loan to the Florida Everblades of the East Coast Hockey League. In his first game back at the James Brown Arena he scored the game winning goal and added an assist to lead his club to the win. As if the goal and assist was not enough, he helped his goaltender Peter Skoggard out when Labelle got his glove on a FireAntz shot that Skoggard was out of position for and was sure to go in the goal.
Skoggard turned in a solid night in net for the RiverHawks, making 26 saves on his way to his ninth win of the season.
The RiverHawks also received a power play goal from Brendan Taylor and insurance markers from Justin Levac and Ed Snetsinger. Levac's goal was his first at the James Brown Arena. Snetsinger continued his fantastic season with a solid all-around game, and padded his stats with an empty-net goal in the final minute of play that trekked nearly the entire length of the ice.
Jesse Biduke scored the lone goal for the FireAntz in the first period on his team's first power play, finishing off a nice set up from Mike Forgie. Goaltender Mike Brown did his best to keep his team in the game, making 37 stops.
The win maintains the RiverHawks seven-point advantage over the second-place Knoxville Ice Bears. The RiverHawks have lost just one game in regulation in their past 14 contests as they prepare for the playoffs.
The RiverHawks are back in action on Phoenix Refrigeration Ice at the James Brown Arena Saturday, March 3rd as they face the Columbus Cottonmouths. The puck drops at 7:35pm. Tickets for the game are available through the RiverHawks' office and the James Brown Arena box office. Additional information on the Team, tickets, and schedule are available on the RiverHawks' home on the web, www.augustariverhawks.com or by calling 706-993-2645.
