Orlando City SC News Release
Back to playing ball on our favorite field. The Lions return to Orlando City Stadium on Saturday after grabbing a road point at Yankee Stadium. Next up for City is Toronto FC. It's early in the season but this could be a big momentum builder for either side. City sits in sixth in the Eastern Conference, while Toronto is holding onto fourth place. Here is what you need to know about the Reds:
Key Transactions
We'll get the big offseason subtractions from the Toronto side out of the way because you probably know who we're talking about already. Giovinco, gone. The little Italian was a star from the moment he stepped on the MLS stage but he decided it was time to go another direction. Toronto also lost crucial experience and producers in the likes of Victor Vazquez and Gregory van der Wiel.
Losing Giovinco was a big blow, but Toronto has been able to transition perfectly so far with Alejandro Pozuelo filling the void he left. Other notable additions include Terrance Boyd, Laurent Ciman, and Richie Laryea who was with City from 2016 to 2018.
Who's Hot?
19 goals in seven games means Toronto is clicking in the attacking third. Jozy Altidore has himself five goals while Alejandro Pozuelo has four goals accompanied by five assists. Jonathan Osorio is also contributing early on with four assists.
Recent Form
Toronto is already off to a better start than their 2018 season. The Reds have the fewest games played in the Eastern Conference and sit behind the conference leaders by just four points. The Canadians also sport the best goal differential (+6) in the East.
Head-to-Head
The Lions haven't had much success in the last two years against Toronto. The Reds hold the advantage in the last four meetings with three wins and only one loss.
Fun Fact presented by Rasmussen College
You would have to go back to April 29th of last year for the last time City won three straight games at home. The boys will try to snap that drought this Saturday. The last time City hosted Toronto, they came away with a 2-1 win.
