
Knights Swat Bats To Avoid Sweep

FORT MILL, S.C. - May 31, 2007 - The Charlotte Knights avoided being swept by pounding out 16 hits including home runs by Josh Fields and Tomas Perez to beat Louisville 7-4. After the Bats took an early 3-0 lead after a Joey Votto 3-run HR, Fields got things going for the Knights at the bottom of the 1st when he hit a two-run shot over the right-center field to make it 3-2. Perez gave Charlotte the lead the very next inning with a two-run shot of his own-his first with the Knights-giving Charlotte a 4-3 lead which they would not relinquish.
Jerry Owens has now reached base safely in 32 consecutive games, tying him with Jack Hannahan of Toledo, for the longest streak of the season.
Knights starter Gavin Floyd (3-3, 4.29) picked up his third win of the season. After a rough first inning, Floyd settled things down going 6 1/3 innings with six strikeouts on the night. Ryan Bukvich (S, 8) got the save for the Knights. Phil Dumatrait (5-4, 3.79) took the loss for the Bats. The Knights finished the home stand going 4-4.
Charlotte will begin an eight-game road trip in Indianapolis and then onto Louisville.
