Knights Stopped by Indians 8-0 on Friday

(Fort Mill, SC) - A night after belting out 14 runs on 15 hits, the Charlotte Knights dropped their first game of the playoffs on Friday.

In front of their home crowd at Knights Stadium, Charlotte lost to the Indianapolis Indians 8-0 in game three of the best-of-five Governors' Cup playoffs. The Knights still hold a 2-1 lead in the series and will be back at Knights Stadium on Saturday to host game four.

The Knights were held to just two hits on the evening and were shut out for just the 11th overall time in 2012.

Charlotte starter Scott Carroll (0-1) allowed five runs on six hits over 5.2 innings and was saddled with the loss. Carroll struck-out five batters on the evening.

As for Indianapolis, starter Phil Irwin (1-0) was the story of the night. Irwin, 25, struck-out 11 batters over seven scoreless innings en route to his club's first win of the 2012 postseason. Irwin walked one and allowed both of Charlotte's hits on the night.

The Indians scored just one run in the top of the first inning, but erupted for five runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. Indianapolis third baseman Hector Luna led the way with three hits. Yamaico Navarro also had two hits and two RBIs for the Indians.

The Knights came into Friday's game averaging 11 runs over the two-game span, but were unable to get a run in game three. After three games, the two teams are now tied in the runs department with 22 each. Charlotte scored eight in game one and 14 in game two.

The two teams will now battle in game four on Saturday at Knights Stadium. RHP Matt Zaleski is the scheduled starter for Charlotte. Gates are set to open at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday with first pitch set for 7:15 p.m. After the game, the Knights will light-up-the-sky with a thrilling post-game fireworks show.
