Knights Sign Jackson; More Help on the Way
June 7, 2012 - West Coast League (WCL)
Corvallis Knights News Release
The Corvallis Knights have bolstered their roster for their upcoming five-game West Coast Conference road trip to Wenatchee and Cowlitz.
The Knights (4-1 WCL, 4-1 overall) on Thursday announced the signing of Brandon Jackson, a 5-foot-11, 193-pound sophomore right-handed pitcher from Western Nevada Junior College. The Roseburg native was 10-1, 1.55 in 19 games in 2012, with 55 strikeouts in 63.2 innings.
Jackson was a first-team Region XVIII all-star in 2012. He will pitch at Oregon State in 2013.
Jackson will join the Knights in time for this weekend's series at Wenatchee, which runs today through Sunday at Paul Thomas Sr. Field. Outfielder Nate Blackham, catcher Dane Lund and infielder Tyler Campbell, who missed all or part of the recent Klamath Falls series because of school commitments, will also rejoin the club.
Infielder Nate Roberts of Seattle University and outfielders Nick Torres and Alex Michaels and pitcher Bryan Granger of Cal Poly will report for the June 11-12 games in Cowlitz. Roberts is a junior; the Mustangs are freshmen.
Reliever Mark Trentacosta of UC Irvine, a 2011 WCL all-star who saved a club-record 11 games, won't return to the Knights as expected. He was picked by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 34th round of the MLB draft on Wednesday and has decided to go pro.
The Knights used three pitchers as position players or DH in a 6-4 win over Klamath Falls this past Wednesday. Their next home game is June 13, when they open a three-game series against Walla Walla.
