Black Bears Ride Great Pitching to 3-1 Victory
June 7, 2012 - West Coast League (WCL)
Cowlitz Black Bears News Release
Longview: The Black Bears took advantage of a pair of errors and a stellar outing by Leko Galusha (Lower Columbia) to defeat the Kelowna Falcons 3-1 and claim their second consecutive league win.
The team got on the board in the first inning when Cody Childs (Mt. Hood CC) scored on an error committed by the Kelowna third baseman. Another run was added in the next inning when an error brought in Drew Luther (Fullerton College). The Black Bears got an insurance run in the eighth when Nick Paxton (Mt. Hood CC) singled in Luther.
Galusha recovered from a rough first start at Kitsap to throw six and two thirds innings and allow just one earned run. He had six strikeouts and walked just one. When Galusha tired, Zev Egli (Mt. Hood CC) came on to get out of a two-out bases loaded jam in the seventh and retire the side in the eighth. Kody Watts (U of Portland) pitched a perfect ninth inning for his second consecutive save.
The Black Bears next game is against Kelowna on Friday at David Story Field, where it will be Azteca Fiesta Friday. There will also be a pint glass giveaway, presented by Widmer, to the first 100 adults.
