Knights Rally Past Yankees 5-4 on Tuesday

(Rochester, NY) -- Tyler Kuhn drove home Jim Gallagher with an RBI single with two outs in the top of the 9th inning and the Charlotte Knights defeated the Empire State Yankees 5-4 to win the second game of the series in Rochester, N.Y.

Conor Jackson had a two-out, two-run double on a 3-2 count in the top of the eighth to tie the game 4-4. The Knights (55-43) scored all of their runs on the night with two outs.

Charlie Shirek (8-4, 3.60) started for Charlotte and went 6.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out a season-high nine. Donnie Veal (6-3, 2.08) pitched 1.1 innings and gave up two hits while striking out two to pick up the victory. Daniel Moskos (3.32) worked the 9th and allowed one hit and struck out the final batter in a steady rain for his second save of the season with the Knights.

Jackson was 2-for-4 for Charlotte, Ray Olmedo went 4-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to nine games and drove in a run, and Hector Gimenez was 3-for-5 and scored a run for the Knights.

Coupled with the Norfolk Tides 6-2 loss to the Rochester Red Wings, the Knights increased their lead in the International League South Division back to four games over the Tides.

Game three of the series is set for Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. in Rochester and Scott Carroll is scheduled to make his first start for Charlotte.
