Norfolk Tides News Release

The Rochester Red Wings plated runs in four of the first five innings en route to a 6-2 win over the Tides Tuesday night at Harbor Park.

Norfolk starter Matt Bischoff (0-1) took the loss in his Triple-A debut after allowing three runs on four hits in three innings of work. The 25-year-old walked one and struck out a pair in his first outing above the Class-A level and his first start in professional baseball.

Bischoff was promoted from Frederick earlier Tuesday to make the spot start in place of Brad Bergesen, who had his contract selected by Baltimore earlier in the day. Bergesen had been in line to make a spot start for the Tides in place of Zach Britton, who was also promoted to Baltimore earlier Tuesday.

Red Wings' starter Jeff Manship (5-1) earned the win after yielding two runs on eight hits in six innings. Manship struck out seven without walking a batter, throwing 63 of his 99 pitches for strikes. Luis Pedermo worked the final three innings of the contest to pick up his sixth save of the season.

Lew Ford led Norfolk's offense with three hits, including a solo home run in the sixth inning - his fifth homer in July. Ford has now hit .340 with 10 homers and 34 RBI in 52 games since joining the Tides on May 18.

The loss was just the second for Norfolk in its last 12 home games and allowed Rochester (11-4) to pass Norfolk (10-4) for the best record in the IL in July.

The two clubs will continue their four-game series on Wednesday night, with first pitch set for 7:15. Steve Johnson (3-6, 3.11) will take the mound for Norfolk against right-hander Liam Hendriks (7-0, 1.79).
