Battle Creek Knights News Release
Battle Creek, MI- Colecio Buie hit for a game high 32, including eight three pointers as Battle Creek moves to 12-0 on the year with a 142-133 victory over Detroit.
Detroit had the early lead at 7-2, but then the Knights showed why they are the only unbeaten team in the league going on a 23-2 run, and would take a 17 point lead after one quarter. The Knights would shoot 68.2 percent in the quarter while holding Detroit to 40 percent from the field.
In the second, Battle Creek's dominance continued as they started the quarter on a 10-0 run on a pair of free throws by Chris Gaines; a straightaway three by Allen White and a three point play by Florentino Valencia. But then, Detroit came back as the Panthers would outscore the Knights 37-26 and at the half Battle Creek had an 18 point lead.
In the third, Battle Creek started quick on a Colecio Buie three ball, but after another Knights run, Detroit came back to go on a 20-1 run to cut the lead down to eight. After a Stanes Bufford three point play, the Battle Creek lead was down to five. After another quick Battle Creek run, the lead was 11 at the end of three quarters.
In the fourth quarter, the only thing in doubt was if Battle Creek would score 150 points as the Knights would hold off a pesky Detroit ball club as Battle Creek moves to 12-0 while Detroit goes to 2-9.
Notes: Buie lead six Knights in double figures. For the Panthers, Randy Gill had 35 points, eight rebounds and five assists while Chuck Bailey had 14 boards. The teams combined to hit 28 three pointers. The bench of Battle Creek outscored Detroit's 56-34.
