Charlotte Knights News Release

FORT MILL, S.C. - After winning the first two games of the series, the Charlotte Knights were hoping to get a series sweep to finish off the 2010 season. The Gwinnett Braves had other plans as they defeated the Knights 7-0 at Knights Stadium.

The Braves went after Knights starter Jeff Marquez early in the game scoring two runs in the first inning on a Brent Clevlen double. Clevlen went 3 for 4 in the game with three RBI and Luis Bolivar hit a two run home run in the 8th inning to cap off the Gwinnett scoring.

Gwinnett didn't need a lot of offense as their pitching kept Charlotte hitters from causing much damage. The Knights were only able to put together six hits in the game. Braves starting pitcher Erik Cordier allowed no runs and struck out three to get his first career Triple-A win.

Charlotte outfielder Stefan Gartrell made his league leading 138th start of the season for the Knights. Pitcher Carlos Torres finishes the season 3rd in the I.L. in strikeouts with 140.

Although Torres did not pitch in the game it may have been his final time in a Knights uniform. Torres, who will be a free agent at the end of the season, had one of the most decorated careers in Knights history. He was named the I.L. Pitcher of the Week three times in 2010, pitched the first ever five-inning perfect game in league history on June 18, 2009 at Pawtucket and was a two time All-Star for Charlotte including being named the starting pitcher for the I.L. in this years All-Star Game.

The Knights finish the season at 67-77, their fourth straight losing season. Gwinnett finishes up in second place in the I.L. South Division at 72-71. Charlotte will begin the 2011 season at Knights Stadium on April 7th when they host the Norfolk Tides.

The Charlotte Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. For ticket or event information, please contact the Knights front office at (704) 357-8071 or (803) 548-8050 or visit our website at for more information.
