Knights Fall In Regular Season Finale
March 4, 2016 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Syracuse Silver Knights News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Silver Knights (11-9, Eastern Division #2) dropped their regular season finale 8-6 to the Harrisburg Heat (1-18, Eastern Division #4) on Friday, snapping the club's two game winning streak. Syracuse ends the 2015-2016 MASL campaign winners of six of its final nine.
Tommy Tanner employed a young side against Harrisburg in preparation for tomorrow's playoff match against the Detroit Waza Flo. Captain Bo Jelovac, scoring-leader Jer Jer Gibson and Kenardo Forbes all sat out the fixture.
"A lot of guys got an opportunity to play tonight, but tomorrow's the big game," Tanner said post game.
Austin Tom and Antonio Manfut seized their opportunities, each bagging a brace in the effort.
The crucial moment occurred moments before the end of the third quarter. Tied 5-5, Syracuse's Musa Almaliti was denied at the doorstep by Tim Mehl who made one of his 18 saves. Patrick Thompson led the Harrisburg charge that ended with Val Teixeira glancing a rebound into the back of the net to give the Heat a lead it wouldn't give up with just 3 seconds left in the third frame. Harrisburg went on to outscore SSK 2-1 in the final period.
Andrew Coughlin made 18 stops in net. His record dropped to 5-2 as a starter.
But all the focus shifts to the postseason, a one-off against Detroit at 7:00 pm EST in the War Memorial for the right to play Baltimore in the next round.
"We've got to be able to play out of pressure, and finish on the other end," the SSK boss explained as the keys to victory.
