Klamath Falls Gems News Release
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The Klamath Falls Gems hosted the hot first place Corvallis Knights Wednesday night at Kiger Stadium. The Knights routed the Gems 11-0 with good pitching and key hitting as 642 Gem fans watched. The win clinches the WCL West title for the Knights.
The Knights beat the Gems with great pitching. The starting pitcher for the Knights, right hander Kyle Hart (U of Redlands), pitched a near perfect seven innings allowing one hit and one walk. David Andriese (UC Riverside) hit a three run bomb over the 350 mark in right center field to cap a four run third inning. In the fifth inning the Knights scored another four runs; Jimmy Allen (Cal Poly) led the way with a two run double to push the lead to 8-0.
Gems starting pitcher Patrick O'Rourke was out of his usual closing spot and had a rough last outing before he heads home to Elk Grove, CA, then on to Hawaii for school. Drew Sandler (U. Cal Irvine) was the only Gem to come up with a hit off Hart.
The Gems will face the Knights in the last game of the series against the Knights at 7:05 Thursday. Friday the Gems will welcome in the Bend Elks.
The Gems are members of the West Coast League, a nine-team professional style wood-bat summer college league. The WCL features pro prospects from major conferences across the country.
