Charlotte Knights News Release
FORT MILL, S.C. - April 12, 2007 - A wild pitch helped Charlotte in game one 5-4, while the Chiefs let their bats do the work in winning game two 7-2. Charlotte won the series 3-1 just as they did against Syracuse in 2006 at home.
In game one, the Knights looked as if they would get their first shutout of the season after scoring four runs in the bottom of the 2nd. Luis Terrero hit his fourth home run of the season with a three-run blast. Pedro Lopez singled to score Josh Fields to give the Knights a 4-0 lead. The Chiefs came back by hitting three consecutive home runs off Knights Starter Charlie Haeger (0-0, 5.25 ERA) including a two-run shot by Kevin Barker and a solo home run by Sal Fasano to tie the game at 4-4.
In the bottom of the ninth, with Casey Rogowski on third, Syracuse's Blaine Neal (0-1, 0.00 ERA) threw a wild pitch that sent Rogowski home for the win. It was the Knights fourth win in a row.
The second game saw the Chiefs cruise to a 7-2 win as Syracuse scored five in the top of the 7th including home runs by Ryan Roberts and John-Ford Griffin.
The Knights head off on an eight-game road trip beginning in Rochester on Friday. RHP Gavin Floyd (0-0, 1.52 ERA) will start for the Knights, while RHP Jeremy Cummings (0-0, 0.00 ERA) takes the mound for the Red Wings. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
