Knighthawks to Support St. Baldrick's

(Rochester, March 8)... The Rochester Knighthawks will spend their Sunday afternoon in Victor supporting St. Baldrick's Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research. The foundation will host one of its signature head-shaving events at Mickey Finn's on Sunday, March 11 th .

Registration and pre-shaving activities start at 1:00 p.m. Shaving will begin at 1:30 p.m., where more than 110 will shave their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer and raise money for life-saving children's cancer research.

Rochester Knighthawks players, dance team members, and their mascot, R. Thunder, will attend the event as "special guests." Fans can meet the Eagle at 1:00 p.m. and mingle with dance team members from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Players Joe Walters, Stephen Keogh and Joel White will sign autographs from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Other guests will include Build-A Bear's mascot, Bearemy, along with the clowns from Grease Paint Alley Clowns. The event will feature a silent auction/raffle for a wide variety of items donated by businesses in the community.

"Our players and staff are committed to making a difference in the Rochester community through our charitable endeavors," said Knighthawks President Lewis Staats. "We are pleased to partner with the St. Baldrick's Foundation in their effort to raise funds for life-saving cancer research."

Worldwide, more than 160,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year, and it remains the leading cause of death by disease among children in the United States. With only four percent of all federal cancer research funding dedicated to pediatric cancer research, St. Baldrick's Foundation grant funds are critical to continue the battle against this devastating disease. Several families from the Rochester area that have a child with cancer will be attending the event. Some of these families are shaving at the event as well.

This is the sixth event in the Rochester area. Past events have raised over $118,000 with over 195 individuals shaving their heads in solidarity for children with cancer. The goal for this year is to have 100 individuals shave on March 11 th .

The Knighthawks will hold a fundraiser for CURE Childhood Cancer Association from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 15th at Scotland Yard Pub. At "Legends Night," fans can meet BEE Morning Coffee Club host Jeremy Newman, members of the Knightingales Dance Team and local sports legends at 187 St. Paul Street. Fans can also meet Amerks and Knighthawks Hall of Famer Jody Gage, Knighthawks Alumni, and former NHL Coach of the Year Ted Nolan. As an added bonus, make sure to stop out to watch NCAA Basketball tournament games.

This weekend, the Knighthawks will host the Buffalo Bandits on Saturday, March 10th at 1:05 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. The first 5,000 fans will receive light-up thundersticks. The game will be broadcast on Sportsradio 950 ESPN and www.sportsradio950espn.com.
