Knighthawks Sign First-Rounder Jarrett Davis to Three-Year Deal
November 18, 2010 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release
(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Knighthawks Owner and General Manager Curt Styres announced today that the team has signed fifth overall selection forward Jarrett Davis and free agent forward Joel Zalesky. In related moves, the Knighthawks released Andrew Potter and Peter Jacobs.
Davis, who was a standout at Bellarmine University, agreed to a three-year contract with the Knighthawks today. Davis, 22, recently completed his senior season with the Knights, averaging over a point per game with five goals and 12 assists for 17 points in 15 games. In 2009, the Port Moody, BC, native led the Knights with a team-best 14 assists after being named team MVP for the 2008 season. In summer of 2010, he was named to the Western Lacrosse Association Second Team as he finished fifth in scoring with 73 points (24+49) as a member of Maple Ridge.
"I saw him at the Open Tryouts and he stood out," said Styres. "Bring in the main camp should be a good experience for him. I know he will have a good camp. He sees the floor well and can beat a defender one on one."
Zalesky, 23, agreed to a two-year deal with the Knighthawks. The Carnegie, Pa., native enters his first season in the National Lacrosse League after playing four seasons with Division II Seton Hill University. In 2010, he was the first Seton Hill men's lacrosse player to receive an All-American award, earning First Team honors. He also earned East Coast Conference Player of the Year accolades and was also a First Team ECC selection. Zalesky led the Griffin offense by posting incredible numbers, scoring a school record 44 goals and adding 31 assists for a single-season record 75 points. In his career, he collected 121 goals and 74 assists for 195 points. He made his professional outdoor debut in the summer of 2010 with the MLL's Toronto Nationals. In 2008, he also played for the Junior "B" Oakville Buzz of the Ontario Lacrosse Association.
"Joel is a lefty with great hands. You would you think he played in Canada his whole life," said Styres. "He has a good shoot and is athletic and fast. Going to camp we will see where he stacks up on the left side. There will be some good competition and whoever wants it more will make it."
The Knighthawks will kick off Training Camp on November 20th with a 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. practice at the Rochester Sports Garden. The second day is on Sunday, November 21st from 9:00 a.m. to noon at Total Sports Experience in Gates. The Knighthawks will be accepting new and gently used lacrosse equipment both days for ROC E6 Lacrosse. The Knighthawks will open the home portion of their schedule on Saturday, January 15th against the Toronto Rock at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena.
