
Knighthawks Shoot for First Home Win Tonight

(Rochester, January 29)... The Rochester Knighthawks will host the Boston Blazers tonight in a rematch of last Saturday's thrilling 11-10 overtime victory at TD Garden. Rochester will look to make it two straight wins against the Blazers, as they host Boston at 7:35 p.m. tonight at The Blue Cross Arena.
The first 5,000 fans will receive a Knighthawks T-shirt. The game will be broadcast live on The Zone 94.1 FM and www.thezone941.com. For tickets call (585) 454-5335 or go online to knighthawks.net. Before the game, fans can get an autograph from former SU star Sol Bliss.
Rochester (2-1) enters the game in a second-place tie with the Buffalo Bandits in the East Division. The Knighthawks are 3-2 lifetime against Boston and 2-0 at home. The game is the second of three meetings this season between the two teams. Rochester is 1-0 after its OT win in Boston last weekend.
For the first time in team history, Rochester has won back-to-back road games in overtime. The 2011 Knighthawks are now one win away from tying the 2005 squad with three OT wins. The 1998 club owns the team record with four overtime games.
Last Saturday, Shawn Evans capped a remarkable comeback with a goal 48 seconds into overtime sending the Knighthawks past the Blazers. Shawn Williams led Rochester with seven points (2+5) and was huge down the stretch, scoring two of the goals and assisting on the game's last three goals. Cody Jamieson recorded his second straight hat trick en route to his second straight Rookie of the Week honors. Evans notched three goals and two assists with his third point of the game being the 300th of his career. Matt Vinc made 39 saves to earn the win in goal.
The game is the second contest in two days for the Blazers, who dropped an 11-5 decision to the Philadelphia Wings last night. Boston (2-3) is now in fifth place in the East after losing three games in eight days. Recently signed Ryan Powell made his Boston debut last night and recorded one assist. He is reunited with his brother Casey, who leads the NLL with 18 goals and is second with 29 points. Teammate Dan Dawson leads the NLL 32 points and 27 assists. The last member of the Big Three, Josh Sanderson, is 11th in the league with 20 points (7+13). The three were limited to eight points last night in the loss to Philadelphia. Brandon Miller made 43 saves and held the Blazers to two goals in the third quarter and shut out Boston in the fourth. NOTES: Four legendary No. 22s in action tonight: Four players that once donned the famous No. 22 for the Syracuse lacrosse program will be in the lineup tonight. The Knighthawks have Gary Gait and Cody Jamieson, while Boston counters with Casey and Ryan Powell. The four players combined for six national championships and 15 All-American selections, while at SU.
Oh, Canada! Tonight's game features two of the goalies that will represent Canada at the 2011 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championships in Prague in May. Anthony Cosmo of Boston and recently named Matt Vinc will tend goalie for the Canadians. It will be the first indoor championships for Vinc, who hails from Hamilton, Ontario. Cosmo, from Mississauga, Ontario, was the goalie for Canada's thrilling 15-14 overtime win over the Iroquois Nationals in the gold medal game in 2007.
Change is in the air: Since their last meeting a lot has changed for the Rochester Knighthawks and the Boston Blazers. Rochester has made five player moves since the first encounter on Saturday, January 22nd, while Boston made two adjustments to its roster. On Thursday, Rochester acquired defenseman Rory Glaves from the Edmonton Rush in exchange for forward Scott Evans. Rochester also signed defensemen Scott Campbell, released transition man Ian Crashley and moved defenseman Cody Johnson to the practice squad. Both Glaves and Campbell were added to the active roster. On Friday, Rochester signed defenseman/transition man Holdon Vyse and placed him on the practice squad.
