Rochester Knighthawks News Release
A member of the McCready family has been affiliated with the Rochester Knighthawks for nearly half of the team's 17 seasons of professional lacrosse. That tradition continued today with the re-signing of transition man Joel McCready to a three-year contract.
"It feels great. It is what I planned on doing and I am excited to get back playing again," said McCready.
Joel became the third McCready to join the Knighthawks when he was selected in the second round of the 2008 NLL Entry Draft. He enters his fourth season with the Knighthawks in 2012.
In 2011, he played alongside his uncle Pat, who spent four seasons in Rochester during his first stint in the Flower City (1997-2001). Joel's grandfather, Robert "Buff" McCready, was an assistant with the Knighthawks from 1998-2001.
"Everyone in Rochester has been great to me, my uncle and my grandfather," said Joel. "I want to do everything I can to give back and work as hard as I can to help them win a championship."
Joel embodies the work ethic of the family name. The signing was applauded by 2011 NLL Coach of the Year, Mike Hasen of the Knighthawks.
"He is a guy that always brings his hard hat and a smile. Joel's work ethic is contagious and guys follow his lead. He is a great team player and does whatever you ask of him," said Hasen.
McCready notched a career-high 43 penalty minutes and 65 loose balls last season. In 2010, he was named the team's Most Improved Player. He played his senior ball with the Langley Thunder and spent his entire junior career at home with the St. Catharines Athletics. McCready played Division I lacrosse at Cornell University in 2007.
Knighthawks season tickets are on sale for as low as $64. To purchase tickets, call the Knighthawks Office at (585) 454-5335.
