Rochester Knighthawks News Release
The Rochester Knighthawks are coming off a big road win in Colorado after defeating the Mammoth 11-9 at the Pepsi Center on Saturday. The Knighthawks improved to 6-3 and remain in second place in the East Division, one-half game behind the Buffalo Bandits.
Stephen Keogh led the way with a career-high five goals, while Johnny Powless added three assists. Paul Dawson also made an impact on the offensive side of the ball, recording two goals and one assist. His brother, Dan, who was playing in his 188th consecutive regular season game, helped his team come up with the win by netting one goal and adding three assists.
Rochester never trailed in the win against Colorado, as the Rochester defense held the Mammoth to two first-half goals. Knighthawks goalie Matt Vinc turned away 33 shots to earn the win. Dylan Evans also won 57 percent of his draws, winning 13 of 23 faceoffs against Bob Snider.
After completing their three-game road trip last Saturday, the Rochester Knighthawks return home on Saturday, March 8th to take on the Philadelphia Wings. The 7:30 p.m. game in Rochester will be streamed live on The Lacrosse Network's YouTube Channel and broadcast live via Sportsradio 950 ESPN and www.sportsradio950espn.com .
Rochester and Philadelphia have met 45 times and the Knighthawks hold a 29-16 all-time record against their East Division foes. T he last time these two teams met was on January 11, 2014 and the Knighthawks won 13-9 on their home turf. Dan Dawson and Craig Point both recorded hat tricks for the Knighthawks in a strong offensive effort. Dawson added three assists, while Point added two. Cody Jamieson recorded two goals and six assists for the Knighthawks and Keogh put in a goal and three assists. Vinc came away with a win in goal after saving 32 shots.
Milestone watch:
- Dan Dawson needs nine points to reach 1,000 in his career.
- Joe Walters (nine) needs one goal to set a personal single-season best.
- Scott Self needs two games to reach 200 in his career.
- Ian Llord needs three games to reach 100 in his career.
Philadelphia Notes: Philadelphia suffered its seventh loss of the season on Sunday, February 23 rd, losing at home to the Minnesota Swarm. In the 15-14 loss, forwards Pat Saunders, Jordan Hall and Kevin Crowley led the team in scoring. Saunders put up four goals and two assists, while Hall recorded a hat trick and added one assist. Crowley had an impressive performance, netting two goals and recording eight assists on the night. The Wings are coming off a Week 10 bye week as they travel to Rochester this Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. contest at The Blue Cross Arena.
Knighthawks in the Community: On Friday, March 7 th, Joe Walters will visit Canal View Elementary where he will address 480 students in grades K-5. Through this program, sponsored by Isaac Heating and Air Conditioning and Wellington Steele & Associates, the Knighthawks have spread their anti-bullying message to over 6,000 kids. The event is the 15th of the season for the Knighthawks.
Adaptive Lacrosse Clinic: The Knighthawks have partnered with the Rochester Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse and No Boundaries Lacrosse to host an adaptive lacrosse clinic at The Blue Cross Arena on Saturday, April 5th. The clinic will allow children with mental, health, and physical disabilities to experience the game of lacrosse. It will run from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and is open to children of all skill levels in grades K-12. There is no cost for participation and equipment will be available for players to borrow and try out. Each participant, along with two guests, will receive a ticket to the Knighthawks game versus the Minnesota Swarm later that day. Next Home Game: After back-to-back road games next weekend and then a Week 13 bye, the Knighthawks will return home on Saturday, March 29 th to take on the Edmonton Rush. Game time is 7:30 p.m. and tickets are currently available by calling (585) 454-4295.
