Rochester Knighthawks News Release
The Rochester Knighthawks ended the season with a 10-8 victory over the New England Black Wolves tonight at Mohegan Sun Arena. The Knighthawks closed out the 2016 campaign with a 7-11 record as they defeated New England for the second time this season.
Dan Dawson led the way with two goals and four assists. His second goal, which was his 40th goal of the season, was assisted by his brother, Paul. It marked the third time in his 15-year career that Dan reached the 40-goal plateau. Paul completed the game with a season-high two points.
Cody Jamieson chipped in five points (2+3) to give him 99 this season. His goal at 11:44 of the first tied the contest at one. Joe Resetarits followed 20 seconds later to give Rochester its first lead of the night. Angus Goodleaf was stellar in goal making 37 saves to earn the victory in his first start of the season.
Rochester also got a huge effort from Dylan Evans, who won 15 draws and scored an insurance goal with 1:21 to play. Brad Self also scored one goal and added two assists to finish tied for the league-lead in points among defensemen.
Rochester captured the final game of the regular season, which was something that the team was focused on doing to reward all those who worked hard behind the scenes in 2016.
"We felt liked we owed it to a lot of people. You always want to feel like you did people right," said Jamieson. "We owed it to Curt (Styres) for all the hard work he puts in. We owed it to our trainers, our staff, the management and our ticket people - we had a great year attendance-wise. We owed it to our families for giving up the time every weekend. More importantly, we owed it to each other to come out here one last game and give it all we had."
