
Knighthawks host Philly Saturday

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Knighthawks host the Philadelphia Wings on Saturday, March 31st for a 7:35 p.m. in an East Division showdown. The game will be carried live on WYSL 1040-AM and wysl1040.com. The contest will also be televised on VERSUS on Monday, April 2nd at 10:00 p.m.
The night will feature a 1980s theme with prizes and music dating back to the hay day of Tesla and Bon Jovi. Big Hair Night also includes a prize for the best '80s hairdo. During the game, fans can signup at the Knighthawks' ticket table in the upper atrium lobby to win 1980's themed prizes. Some of the items include a Care Bear, a Rubik's Cube, Pac-Man handheld video game and various CDs and DVDs from that era.
Further, the first 10,000 fans will receive thundersticks courtesy of Time Warner Cable. The first 1,000 fans will also take home a Regy Thorpe card from Nathaniel's Pub. Prior to the contest, kids can participate in a lacrosse clinic from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. (grades seven to 12).
Last weekend, Rochester became the second team to clinch a National Lacrosse League playoff spot, following a 21-15 win over the New York Titans Saturday night at Nassau Coliseum. The playoff berth was Rochester's 13th in the team's 13-year history, which is a National Lacrosse League record.
The victory extended Rochester's franchise record winning streak to eight games. The K-Hawks are now 10-2 and lead the East Division by two games over the Buffalo Bandits. New York fell to 2-10 with the home loss.
Rochester has three players in the Top 10 in the league in scoring and has an NLL-best 190 goals. John Grant is second in the league in goals (38) and points (83). Scott Evans leads the NLL with 39 goals and is fifth in points (74), while Shawn Williams holds down the eighth position with 69 points (26+43).
The Knighthawks also have scored the most power-play goals (59) and lead the league with a 64.33 conversation rate on the power play. If that wasn't impressive enough, Rochester has netted the most shorthanded goals in the league with 17. Steve Toll is tied for the league-lead with four shorthanded goals and leads all defensemen with 30 points (12+18). Toll is also tied for first in loose balls with 142. In goal, the Knighthawks are led by veteran Pat O'Toole. The Rochester goalie leads the NLL in wins (10) and is second in saves (459).
The contest in Rochester is the second of a two-game road trip for the Wings. Philadelphia travels to the Air Canada Centre tonight in a battle for the fourth and final playoff spot in the East. The Wings (5-6) currently hold a half-game lead over the Rock for the final postseason spot. The game is the second and final meeting between the two teams. Philadelphia won the last contest, 10-9, on January 27th. The Wings are trying to get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2002.
The Wings have lost four of their last five games, but broke their four-game losing streak on March 24th, following their 12-11 win over the Chicago Shamrox. The Wings trailed 9-4 at half, but stormed back in the second half and outscored the Shamrox 5-0 in the fourth quarter. Kyle Fiat completed the comeback as he scored the game-winner with just 40 seconds to play. Dan Marohl (1+5) and Sean Greenhalgh (4+1) also contributed to the road win.
Marohl now leads the Wings with 48 points, while Greenhalgh is second with 47 points (21+26). Rookie Geoff Snider is also third in the NLL with 119 loose balls. In addition, goalie Matt Roik is third in the league with a 10.79 goals-against average.
Next weekend, Rochester remains home to host the Minnesota Swarm on Saturday, April 7th at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. The game will be carried live on WYSL 1040-AM and wysl1040.com. The contest will also air live on Time Warner SportsNet Channel 26.
The Knighthawks will hold a pregame party at Nathaniel's Pub (251 Exchange Blvd.) prior to their home game against the Minnesota Swarm on Saturday, April 7th. For just $30, fans will receive a 200-center game ticket (value $27), two drafts or sodas and finger foods. Fans with a game ticket can also attend the pregame festivities for $15. The Knighthawks will battle the Swarm on "Origins of Lacrosse Night," as fans are introduced to the history of game. During the contest, the team will hold a jersey auction to benefit FOODLINK. Fans can bid on the special purple game-worn jerseys in the upper atrium bar area. The first 1,000 fans will also receive a John Grant card courtesy of Nathaniel's Pub. Further, the Knightingales dance team will conduct a Dance Clinic from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
