Rochester Knighthawks News Release
The Rochester Knighthawks invited a special fan to Kids Day on Saturday - 2-and-a-half year-old Gabriel Boos.
On Saturday, he and a group of his family and friends were at Connors & Ferris Field at The Blue Cross for Kids Day as the Knighthawks took on the Colorado Mammoth. The family, who lives in the Buffalo area, made the trip to watch their new favorite National Lacrosse League team play and took part in a ceremonial faceoff prior to the game.
"We've been fans of lacrosse forever," said Gabriel's mother Hillary Boos. "My kids are enrolled Senecas and it's just a sport that we've always watched and been fans of."
The family reached out to the Knighthawks to obtain a donation item for a benefit that was being held for Gabriel on March 29th. The Knighthawks jumped on the opportunity to help out, donating a lacrosse stick and tickets to a lacrosse game. All proceeds went to the family to help with medical costs due to Gabriel's condition.
Gabriel, who was born with a severe cleft palette, is scheduled to have surgery on April 14th. He also has lowered kidney and ear abnormalities which required surgery. He will have to go through more surgeries in the future to fix those conditions.
"This was more than we ever expected," said Hillary. "We reached out, but we never thought we would get this much. It's just insane to see how great they've treated us and how much they helped. We're definitely big fans."
They came up even bigger when they invited the family to come out for a game, sit on the party deck, and take part in the faceoff. The Knighthawks didn't stop there, though. As little gift for Gabriel, the team gave him a jersey to wear to his first ever Knighthawks game.
The Boos family was extremely grateful for the never-ending support and generosity the Knighthawks have shown and couldn't wait to experience their first Knighthawks game.
"He's still a little young to have favorite players and teams, but he loves watching lacrosse," Hillary said. "The support that we got from the Knighthawks is just crazy. It's insane how awesome (the team) has been."
