
Knighthawks Grant and Turner named Subway First Team All-Pros

(Rochester, NY)... The National Lacrosse League announced today that Rochester Knighthawk forward John Grant and defenseman Andrew Turner have been named as Subway First Team All-Pros. The first and second teams were based on a vote by the head coaches, governors and general managers of the league's 10 member clubs.
The first team consists of the winners of the following awards: Most Valuable Player, Defensive Player of the Year and Goaltender of the Year. The three remaining spots for the First All-Pro Team are comprised of the next three players who received the most points from votes cast for the league's MVP.
The second team is comprised of the player with the second most votes for the Goaltender of the Year and the remaining spots are comprised of the next five players who received the most points from votes for the Most Valuable Player.
Grant received his third First Team All-Pro honors in his sixth NLL season. The Peterborough, Ontario, native scored a league-best 49 goals in 2005 and was sixth best with 56 assists. His 105 points tied Toronto's Blaine Manning for the second most points in the league this season.
The 30 year old also collected 83 loose balls and scored four game-winning goals. Grant was the Week #4, #7, and #8 Offensive Player of the Week and the Week #4 and Week #8 Overall Player of the Week this season. The Knighthawks alternate captain was selected to the 2005 Eastern Division All-Star team and totaled two points on one goal and one assist. He was the Knighthawks' first-round selection (first overall) in the 2000 NLL Entry Draft.
Grant holds the franchise's all-time records for goals (242), assists (269) and points (511) in 78 games. In addition, he is first in shots on goal with 923. He also holds the record for consecutive games with a point (78) and owns the team's single-season records for goals (52), assists (56), points (105) and shots on goal (199). In the playoffs, Grant is the team's all-time leader in goals (28), points (52) and shots on goal (100). He is also third in assists (24).
Grant will spend his summer playing for the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse.
Turner receives another award this postseason, having already won the Sportsbook.com NLL Defensive Player of the Year and the team's Most Valuable Player and Best Defenseman honors. The alternate captain led a Rochester defense that yielded a league-low 179 goals against in 16 games. The Beamsville, Ontario, native becomes the first Knighthawk player honored with the award, which has been handed out since the 2001-02 season.
In 2005, Turner completed his sixth season with the Knighthawks and second as one of the team's alternate captains. The 27 year old notched a career-high 13 points (0+13) and was named the team's Most Valuable Player and Best Defenseman. He was also named an alternate captain for the Eastern Division NLL All-Star Team.
In 2004, he was named to the Knighthawks' 10th Anniversary Team and was selected to the NLL Eastern Division All-Star team. In his NLL career with the Knighthawks he has registered nine goals and 43 assists for 52 points in 76 games. His 185 penalty minutes rank fourth on the franchise's all-time list. He was the Knighthawks' second-round selection (eighth overall) of the 1999 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft.
Turner has also spent his summers playing box lacrosse in Canada. He won a Mann Cup in 2003 with the Victoria Shamrocks and was named the MVP of the Finals and the Western Lacrosse Association Finals.
Rochester finished the 2005 season in third place in the Eastern Division with a 10-6 record. The K-Hawks advanced to the playoffs for the 11th time in the team's 11-year history. The Knighthawks' season ended in the NLL Semifinals.
