Rochester Knighthawks News Release
The Rochester Knighthawks' late rally fell one-goal short in an 11-10 loss to the Calgary Roughnecks tonight at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
The Roughnecks outscored the Knighthawks 5-1 in the fourth quarter and goalie Mike Poulin made a save on Stephen Keogh in the closing seconds to improve to 5-3. Rochester fell to 5-3 with the road loss, despite getting 32 saves from Matt Vinc.
Keogh finished the game with three goals and five assists, while Cody Jamieson notched two goals and added five assists. His goal with 58 seconds to play gave Rochester the opportunity to tie the game and force overtime.
Poulin made 10 saves in the fourth to finish the game with 39 stops. It was a much different goalie who started the game by allowing four goals on the first eight shots.
The Knighthawks came out firing, getting five goals from five different goal scorers in the first quarter to take a 5-1 lead. Rochester's Joel McCready (1+4) scored at 7:18 of the opening quarter to extend his career-high goal-scoring streak to 13 games. Johnny Powless (2+1), Jamieson and Joe Walters (2+2) followed the McCready goal and it was a four-goal Rochester advantage.
Poulin was lifted for 30 seconds in the first and returned to shut out the K-Hawks in the second quarter. Calgary's offense chipped away at the Rochester lead and Dane Dobbie's goal at 13:03 to cut the deficit to 5-4 at halftime. Dobbie finished the game with three goals and two assists.
His power-play goal at 2:48 tied the game at five. After trading goals, Rochester scored three goals in 1:13 to move in front 9-6. The Knighthawks were relentless as Walters netted his second of the night and Keogh scored twice. Rochester pounded the net, outshooting Calgary 15-6 in the third.
In the fourth, Calgary got within one as Jeff Shattler scored back-to-back goals in the first nine minutes. Curtis Dickson then scored two straight goals in 19 seconds with his second coming with 4:32 to play to give the Roughnecks their first lead of the game. Dobbie added another at 11:51 before Jamieson rifled a shot past Poulin to make it 11-10.
The Knighthawks will close out their three-game road trip on Saturday, March 1st with a trip to Denver. The 9:00 p.m. game against the Colorado Mammoth will be streamed live on The Lacrosse Network's YouTube channel and broadcast live via Sportsradio 950 ESPN and www.sportsradio950espn.com.
