Philadelphia, PA, December 13, 2003 â The Philadelphia KiXX (8-3) defeated the Milwaukee Wave (7-3) tonight, 6-4, in front of 4,168 fans at the Wachovia Spectrum. Milwaukee's Kevin Burk registered the only the goal in a heavily defensive first quarter, giving the Wave the 1-0 advantage after one full period of play. Greg Howes recorded the assist on the play.
KiXX defender Pat Morris evened the score at one, connecting on a feed through the box from player/coach Don D'Ambra at 2:44 of the second. Milwaukee regained the one-point advantage, 2-1, at 4:52 when Wave defender Troy Dusosky's shot slipped through the legs of Pappas and deflected into the air setting up teammate Chris Morman with an empty-net header. Marcelo Fontana extended the Wave lead to two, 3-1, with an unassisted strike at 7:03 of the period. KiXX forward Goran Vasic added to his league-leading point total, recording a pair of goals in a 24-second span (10:31 and 10:55) to knot the game at three. After first converting on a restart goal to cut the Wave lead to one, 3-2, Vasic took a pass from Shawn Boney and deposited a shot over Vorberg for the 3-3 tie. Less then three minutes later (13:29), Philadelphia midfielder Kevin Sloan connected with Vasic to put the KiXX up, 4-3, going into the half.
In the third quarter, both teams were held scoreless as Milwaukee outshot the KiXX, 6-1. Pappas recorded 2 saves, while the Wave's Matt Schmidt blocked the only Philadelphia shot on goal. The KiXX carried the one-point advantage, 4-3, into the final quarter of play.
Shanker extended the Philadelphia lead as he notched an empty net goal with Dusosky in as the sixth-attacker at 13:30 of the fourth. Milwaukee pulled to within one, 5-4, when Greg Howes scored with 27 seconds remaining in the game. KiXX midfielder Andy Guastaferro sealed the Philadelphia victory, 6-4, lobbing a pass from pappas over the defense and into the open net as time expired.
