Game Summary: Kitchener bounced back after a loss Thursday night with a 5-2 home win over North Bay. A busy second period included five goals, two of which were scored by OHL goals leader Carson Rehkopf. Filip Mesar recorded two assists in the win bringing his point total to seven in four games since his return from the Laval Rocket. Hunter Brzustewicz extended his point streak to 14 games in the victory.
Scoring Summary:
1st Period
KIT 0, NB 1
6:41 Ty Nelson (5) - Justin Ertel, Brice Cooke
Despite Kitchener dominating possession to start the game, North Bay struck first. The Battalion entered the zone on a three on two, Cooke sent the puck over to Ertel cross-ice who sent it back across to Nelson who sniped it home for his fifth goal of the season.
2nd Period
KIT 1, NB 1
8:37 Mitchell Martin (9) - Simon Motew, Carson Rehkopf
Martin tied the game up at one with a deflection. Rehkopf sent a bank pass from down low to the point, Motew was waiting with his stick in the air for the one-timer and sent it to the net. Martin read the play and got his stick on the puck deflecting it down and into the goal.
KIT 2, NB 1
10:12 Tanner Lam (3) - Kyle Morey
Lam put the Rangers up one on the Battalion 1:25 after Martins's goal. Morey won a battle in the corner, ending up with the puck on his stick and sending it to the slot where Lam was all alone. Lam walked in and sniped it past three North Bay players surrounding their goalie and into the net.
KIT 2, NB 2
11:16 Carter Kostuch (2) - Lirim Amidovski, Dylan Richter
North Bay would retaliate with a goal just 1:04 later. Kostuch scored an impressive goal while falling in front of Jackson Parsons. Amidovski crashed hard into the corner to come up out with the puck and sent a pass to Kostuch who was all alone in front of the net. While receiving the pass, Kostuch began to fall, however on the way down he flipped the puck up and over Parsons to tie the game.
KIT 3, NB 2
15:50 Carson Rehkopf (16) - Filip Mesar
Mesar trooped out a hard-working assist stealing the puck off Battalion captain Liam Arnsby's stick deep in the offensive zone. Mesar then quickly passed the puck to Rehkopf who put the puck home behind Mike McIvor for the lead.
KIT 4, NB 2
19:37 Carson Rehkopf (17) - Filip Mesar, Tomas Hamara
Rehkopf netted his second goal and third point of the game late in the second period. He was standing in the slot where Mesar poked out the puck while under pressure, setting Rehkopf up for the second time in the frame. Rehkopf used his rocket of a shot to score his 17th of the year and put the Rangers up 4-2 heading into the intermission.
3rd Period
KIT 5, NB 2
11:13 Cameron Mercer (2) - Hunter Brzustewicz, Carson Campbell
Mercer helped the loose puck that trickled behind McIvor following Brzustewicz's slap shot from the point. McIvor got in front of Brzustewicz' shot, however, it squeaked through behind him where Mercer found it and tapped it in.
