Kinston's Ole Sheldon is the Carolina League Player of the Week

Kinston, NC - Kinston Indian's first baseman Ole Sheldon is the Carolina League Player of the Week for the final week of the regular season. Sheldon put the K-Tribe on his broad shoulders as he kept the Indians in the playoff hunt through the final day of the regular season Sheldon hit .355, driving in eight runs with a .581 slugging percentage over the final week of the regular season. Sheldon finished the 2009 season with a .267 batting average, leading the K-Tribe with 13 home runs, 54 RBI and a .473 slugging percentage in just 72 games.

The award highlights a week full of postseason honors for the K-Tribe. Kinston starting pitcher Paolo Espino walked away with the Carolina League ERA title, going 9-6 with a 2.59 ERA in 118 innings this season. Espino won his last six starts of the season, going 8-2 with a 1.97 ERA in the second half of the 2009 campaign.

Kinston's Head Groundskeeper Stephen Watson was named the 2009 Carolina League Sports Turf Manager of the Year over the weekend, bringing back field of the year honors to Historic Grainger Stadium for the first time since 2005.

Kinston's Cord Phelps, Tim Fedroff and Lonnie Chisenhall were each named to the Carolina League End of Year All-Star Team.

The K-Tribe's 2009 season is complete, but the Indians will open the 2010 season at Historic Grainger Stadium on Thursday, April 8th. Keep up with the K-Tribe over the fall and winter at www.kinstonindians.com.
