
Kinston ends season with 5-2 win

Kinston ends the regular season on a high note, with a 5-2 eleven inning win over Myrtle Beach on Monday afternoon. Micah Schilling started the extra inning barrage when he singled with one out in the top of the eleventh. One batter later Rodney Choy Foo brought him home with a double up the third base line. Caleb Brock and Chris De La Cruz added RBI's later in the eleventh inning.
Argenis Reyes started the scoring for Kinston in the third inning when he hit his second home run of the season, a two run shot scoring Johnny Drennen and making the score 2-0. Myrtle Beach tied it up with runs in the fourth and seventh innings. Scott Sumner (1-1) picked up the win, throwing three innings of one hit relief. Scott Roehl got his fourth save of the season, pitching a scoreless bottom of the eleventh.
Kinston set an all time franchise record with a .273 team batting average for the season. Kinston's bats were also second best in franchise history in hits, runs scored and RBI. K-Tribe pitcher Chuck Lofgren set a modern day franchise record with 17 wins, the most in all of Minor League Baseball this season. Indians hurler Scott Lewis also set a franchise mark with a 1.48 ERA, the best of any full season thrower in all of Minor League Baseball this season.
Kinston ends the regular season with a league best 85-54 record and a 38-31 mark in the second half. Kinston travels to Salem, Virginia on Wednesday for game one of the best of three Carolina League Southern Division Series. Chuck Lofgren (17-5, 2.32) takes the mound against Salem's Jimmy Barthmaier (11-8, 3.62). Game Time 7:07 PM. The K-Tribe will return to Kinston on Thursday for game two of the best of three series, 7PM first pitch. It will be another Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark, as well as the first one-thousand kids through the gates getting free back packs.
