Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS â The new-look Memphis RiverKings rebounded strongly and continued the road woes of the visiting Topeka Tarantulas by way of a 6-2 victory before a DeSoto Civic Center crowd just over 2200.
Keith Aucoin's second goal of the evening secured the Memphis win. Aucoin grabbed hold of a Don Parsons pass and tickled the Topeka twine to put the âKings ahead for good at the 8:18 mark of the first period.
Aucoin, and the âKings offense, started early and captain Don Parsons capitalized on a rebound to put the home team up 1-0. The goal, Parsons' first on the campaign came 2:27 into the first period.
Memphis would extend the lead with 6:15 gone in the first period, Aucoin latched on to defensemen Jeff Cameron's pass and put the puck behind Tarantula goaltender David St. Germain stretch the Memphis advantage to 2-0.
The âKings took a 2-0 lead into the break and came out firing as Parsons again lit the lamp, his second on the season and on the night, courtesy of a nice series of feeds from Aucoin and defenseman Derek Landmesser.
A Topeka offense which had gone over 2 full games without scoring would respond, however, as forward Tab Lardner lit the lamp at the 5:12 mark of the 2nd.
Brad Mueller would quickly restore the âKings command over the game, again victimizing the Tarantula powerplay. Mueller stole the puck deep in Memphis' zone, raced the length of the ice and beat a sprawling St. Germain. St. Germain would be pulled shortly thereafter.
A goal late in the second from Justin Williams got the Tarantulas as close as they were going to get, and a third period strike from forward Chris Migliore, again shorthanded, sealed the 6-2 victory.
âKings goaltender Daniel Boisclair came up big between the pipes, stopping 31 of the 33 shots he faced en route to his 2nd victory in 2 chances this season. St. Germain took the loss, surrendering 5 goals on 16 shots before giving way to Dwayne Bateman.
Memphis (2-1) swings westward to face Colorado and New Mexico before next Thursday (Nov. 6th) when they return home to face the Austin Ice Bats
