Mississippi RiverKings News Release
The Mississippi RiverKings plan to make a bold statement on the ice as they partner with BOLD Initiative and Hernando High School Interact Club during the Friday, February 8th autism awareness game as the team battles the Louisiana IceGators at the Landers Center in Southaven.
BOLD (Balance, Opportunity, Learning, Determination) Initiative helps develop and fund different programs for families who have been affected with autism and related disorders.
"BOLD Initiative offers programs at no charge or minimal cost to parents of children with autism, most of whom operate on tight budgets because of the expense of caring for the special needs of their unique children," BOLD Treasurer Art Frey said. "These programs provide these kids with social activities and allow parents to bond with other parents through a common denominator."
BOLD Initiative is selling tickets to raise funds to support and educate families with autism. Ten dollars of every ticket sold and used will directly benefit BOLD Initiative.
Hernando High School Interact Club is partnering with BOLD Initiative and others to raise community awareness of autism. The 100-plus student member club is heading up a special event, "Light it Up Blue," that will take place for the second time this April. This event encourages everyone, especially local businesses, to deck themselves out in blue in support of autism. The first "Light it Up Blue" event in April 2012 brought in more than 500 people. Interact Club members will also be selling tickets to the RiverKings game on Jan. 26th.
The RiverKings take on the Louisiana IceGators Tuesday, January 8, at 7:05 p.m. at the Landers Center as the team celebrates Elvis night and will host a live auction after the game for the special game-worn Elvis jerseys. Be sure to keep up with the RiverKings on Facebook (facebook.com/mississippiriverkings) and Twitter (twitter.com/riverkings).
The Mississippi RiverKings are supported by their community partners, season ticket holders, fans, and by program-related investments of the Maddox Foundation, an independent private foundation based in Hernando, Miss.
