Champion City Kings News Release

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Catchers Joey Mancuso and Brent Hermanussen have been added to the Champion City Kings' 2014 roster, along with pitcher Matthew Glasmann.

Mancuso has appeared in 31 games this Spring for the Creighton Bluejays and owns a .250 batting average and an on-base percentage of .386.

Kings manager Brett Neffendorf believes Mancuso's real value is on the defensive end. "From everything I know about Joey, I believe he will be a special player for the Kings this summer," said Neffendorf. "His ability to be a consistent catch-and-throw guy will mesh well with our pitchers to shut down our opponents' running game."

Hermanussen is a junior at New Mexico State and Neffendorf is excited about the catcher's potential as an offensive threat.

"Any player hitting middle of the order at a place like New Mexico State is a big-time offensive threat," Neffendorf said about the 6-foot-3, 220 pound backstop. "Brent will hit for power in our lineup and add depth behind the plate while playing corner infield from time to time."

Glasmann is a 6-foot-4, 220 pound left-hander from Western Texas College. As a freshman this Spring, Glasmann has been a regular in the Westerners' rotation.

"It says a lot that Matt showed up to Western Texas and held down the second spot in a pitching rotation the entire season," said Neffendorf. "He has all the physical tools a major league organization could ask for. With more quality innings for the Kings this summer, I think Matt has a shot to be drafted after his sophomore campaign."

The Kings open the 2014 season at home against the Chillicothe Paints on Wednesday, May 28 at 7:05 p.m.
