Champion City Kings News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Champion City Kings are revealing one player from the 2015 roster each Friday this offseason. This week, the Kings are pleased to announce that catcher Jordan McDonough from The Ohio State University will join the club for the upcoming season, which will begin May 27 against the Richmond RiverRats at Carleton Davidson Stadium.
"Jordan is a good-sized catcher with a very good arm and has shown the ability to handle the bat," Kings manager Chris Perkovich stated. "He's a very hard worker that should have a big impact this summer."
McDonough is gearing up for his first season with the Buckeyes this Spring after hitting .308 in his senior season at Cincinnati St. Xavier last Spring. The catcher also collected three home runs and 14 RBIs in 25 games played.
While in high school, the Cincinnati, Ohio, native was widely regarded as one of the midwest's top catchers from the time he started playing varsity baseball, largely due to his catch-and-throw skills behind the plate. "Jordan has a good arm behind the plate and will be pivotal in stopping the run game for the opponents," Perkovich said of the 6-foot, 195-pound backstop. "With the combination of the arms on our pitching staff and Jordan, no one should run on us."
"He is from an amazing program at Ohio State and I believe after a year of playing there, he will be more than prepared for the Prospect League schedule this summer."
McDonough is one of three Buckeyes that are currently slated to play for the Kings this summer.
The Kings begin the 2015 season at home Wednesday, May 27 against the Richmond RiverRats at 7:05 p.m. Season ticket and advertising information is available by contacting the general manager Rick White via email at rwhite@championcitykings.com or by calling the team at (937) 342-0320.
