Champion City Kings News Release

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Champion City Kings are revealing one player from the 2015 roster each Friday this offseason. This week, the Kings present right-handed pitcher Ryan Vruggink (NCAA DII, Great American Conference), who will join the club for the upcoming season, which will begin May 27 against the Richmond RiverRats at Carleton Davidson Stadium.

"Ryan is a hard throwing good sized pitcher that gets a lot of strikeouts," Said Kings manager Chris Perkovich. "He's the type of guy that will get more strikeouts than innings pitched."

Vruggink began is collegiate career at the University of Houston (NCAA DI, American Athletic Conference). During his freshman and sophomore seasons, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound pitcher threw 25 innings and struck out 28 batters. He did not appear in a game during the 2014 season after transferring to Arkansas Tech.

Heading into the summer, Perkovich sees Vruggink in a late-inning or closer role. "He is going to be arguably one of the biggest pieces of the team, he is going to secure the back end of the bull pen," Perkovich stated. "The ability to come in during the ninth inning and shut it down is not easy, but Ryan has that ability and will be showing all of Springfield what he is capable of."

The Kings begin the 2015 season at home Wednesday, May 27 against the Richmond RiverRats at 7:05 p.m. Season ticket and advertising information is available by contacting General Manager Rick White via email at rwhite@championcitykings.com or by calling the team at (937) 342-0320.
