Kenosha Kingfish News Release
Kenosha, Wis. - The Kingfish took advantage of the Kalamazoo Growlers bull pen and won tonight's game 7-4. The pitching woes of the Growlers resulted in their line-up rotating into the pitcher position, with all eight position players hitting the mound.
The Growlers struck early tallying one in the first, a home run in the second, and two more in the third to go up 4-0. The Kingfish were not discouraged however and made a statement with a six-spot in the fourth.
The rally started with a walk issued to 2B Alex Borglin, followed by SS Kyle Brooks reaching on an error. Next up was LF Pat Porter, who doubled and drove in both, putting King Elvis's crew on the board. 1B Zach Ratcliff was then walked, bringing up CF Buddy Reed. Reed (2-4, 3 RBI) crushed a bomb shot to left field, homering in three runs to get the lead 5-4. The sixth run came off of a wild pitch in the same frame.
The Kingfish tacked on one more in the seventh to push the score to 7-4, where it would stay for the remainder of the evening.
Zach Morgenstern was a steady leader for the Kingfish through five innings. In his Kingfish debut, reliever Justin Peters was strong for two innings with no runs and a strikeout to keep the Growlers at bay.
The Kingfish play the Kalamazoo Growlers tomorrow night at 5:05pm with Hall of Famer Ferguson Jenkins in attendance. Monday, the Kingfish take on the Lakeshore Chinooks for a home-and-home double header, with the second game coming at historic Simmons Field at 7:05p.m.
