Kenosha Kingfish News Release
Kenosha, Wis. - The Kingfish have padded their infield depth with two more signees. Sawyer Gieseke, from the University of Arizona, and Harry Shipley, from Purdue University, will join the team this summer.
Gieseke, a junior at Arizona, transferred from the University of San Francisco before the 2015 season and played for the Wildcats last season. He started three games for Arizona and appeared in 25 games off the bench. Defensively, he was a strong option, as he scored 118 putouts, good for fourth on the team.
In 2015, Gieseke played summer collegiate baseball in the California Collegiate League for the Walnut Creek Crawdads. There he had seven doubles, two triples, three stolen bases, and hit .214 on the year.
Shipley, college teammate of returning Kingfish player Adam Dressler, is in his sophomore season at Purdue. The Boilermaker was named freshman of the week last season and was just one of two players on the roster, to start every game.
By the end of the year, he settled into the leadoff spot and played 469 innings of shortstop. He hit .274 with 16 RBI and led the Big Ten in number of times being hit by a pitch with 16.
The Kingfish will open up play this summer at home against the La Crosse Loggers on May 31 at 7:05 CST.
