Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Suns again employed timely hitting in a 4-2 victory over the Greenville Braves on Friday in front of 8,760 fans at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Brennan King hit a two-run home run off Braves starter Adam Wainwright in the second inning to give the Suns a 2-0 lead. It was one of five hits for Jacksonville (30-36) which stranded three baserunners.
With two outs in the fourth inning, Gookie Dawkins laced a two-run double down the left field line off Wainwright (5-3) to put the Suns in the lead, 4-0. That was ample run support for Suns starter Alfredo Gonzalez, who did not allow a hit until the fifth inning. He allowed two runs in the sixth after he was one strike away from getting out of the inning. Gonzalez gave up a solo home run to James Jurries and an RBI single to Jason Fitzgerald.
Gonzalez (2-2) earned the victory, pitching six innings, allowing four hits and striking out nine, which tied a career-best.
Ryan Minor retired all six batters he faced in the seventh and eighth innings to set up an opportunity for Jason Frasor, who pitched a scoreless ninth to notch his second save.
Right-hander Joel Hanrahan (6-2, 2.22 ERA) is scheduled to face Braves righty Matt Belisle (3-6, 3.75) at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
