Richmond Kickers News Release
RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Kickers continue the month-long road stand with their third back-to-back trip of the season, taking on the Rochester Rhinos on Friday, July 12 and Harrisburg City Islanders on Saturday, July 13. Watch live from Sahlen's Stadium and Skyline Sports Complex on USLnation.com at 7:35 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., respectively.
The Kickers' enter this weekend's matches after a hard-fought 3-2 win in Dayton to remain unbeaten in 15 games, breaking the club record for longest undefeated streak set by the 1995 USL and U.S. Open Cup Championship team (14 games). The end-to-end action saw the Dutch Lions take a 4th minute lead, which they carried through the first 45 minutes until a pair of Luke Vercollone tallies, followed by a Michael Seaton goal put the Kickers on top in the second half. Dayton pulled a goal back with three minutes remaining in regulation but the Kickers defense shut down the home side's late-game attack to come within a point of league-leading Orlando City at the top of the USL PRO table.
The Kickers meet both the Rhinos and the City Islanders for the second time during the 2013 campaign, having hosted both teams in early season matches in Richmond.
With a rivalry dating back to 1999, the Kickers narrowed the Rhinos' all-time series record advantage to 9-7-6 following a 4-1 win at City Stadium in April. A pair of red card ejections in between a barrage of goals saw Rochester reduced to 10 men after earning an early lead on a Matt Luzunaris tally. The Kickers retaliated with four unanswered goals as Mike Callahan, Joseph Ngwenya, Jason Yeisley and Stanley Nyazamba led the Kickers to the early season victory.
The Rhinos are 2-1-4 in their last seven matches, most recently battling the Charlotte Eagles to a 2-2 draw last week. After allowing a goal on either side of the half, the Rhinos came back with a pair of goals within six minutes when Andrew Hoxie and Tam McManus teamed up to level the score seconds before the final whistle.
The Kickers last met the City Islanders in May when Kickers goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra posted nine saves and Michael Seaton and Nate Robinson rounded out the 2-0 scoreline, extending the Kickers all-time series record against the City Islanders to 11-3-7.
Harrisburg is coming off a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to the Wilmington Hammerheads last week. Rallying from a 1-0 deficit, the City Islanders leveled the score on a Sainey Touray second half equalizer before conceding the 90th minute game-winner, but remain in third place in the USL PRO standings with a 10-5-1 record and 31 points.
