Eagles Sign Paul Islas

Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte Eagles have added midfielder Paul Islas to their roster. The Fresno Pacific alum had been playing for the Fresno Fuego of the USL PDL this season before being signed by Charlotte.

Islas, 23, finished his Fresno Pacific career with 55 goals,

good for 3rd most in school history and 33 assists, also good for 3rd most in school history. In his senior season, Islas scored 22 goals and added 12 assists in 19 games. This season with the Fresno Fuego, Islas played in nine games and scored nine goals while recording four assists. While with the Fuego he helped lead them to a 9-0-1 record and 1st place in the Southwest Division.

Major League Soccer's Chivas USA selected Islas with the 19th pick in the 2013 Supplemental Draft. He became only the second FPU player to be selected in the MLS Draft in school history.

Eagles head coach Mark Steffens had this to say about his newest signing: "Having Paul Islas in the lineup should give our attack a boost. We have tracked him for a while now and feel fortunate to have signed him. He brings quickness, speed, and scoring ability to our squad."

Islas made his Charlotte Eagles debut in the 3-2 victory against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on July 4th, coming in for Christian Ramirez. He opened his Eagles goal scoring account in the 33rd minute against the Rochester Rhinos on Saturday, July 6th.
