Charlotte Eagles News Release

Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte Eagles and Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire have reached an agreement that will see defender Shaun Francis join the Fire pending league approval. Per Major League Soccer and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Jamaican left back gave the Fire plenty of time to get acquainted with his playing style. He appeared in three matches against the MLS side, once in the US Open Cup and twice in matches against the Fire Reserves. He scored the game winning goal in the most recent game against the Fire, a 2-1 Eagles victory, on June 29th at Toyota Park in Chicago, in which turned out to be his final Eagles appearance.

Francis, 26, made 10 appearances with the Eagles, scoring three goals and recording two assists to help Charlotte reach 4th place in the USL PRO standings.

"We are not happy about losing a great player and leader like Shaun Francis. He is a guy who will be very hard to replace," added Eagles coach Mark Steffens. "Having said that, we are very happy for Shaun getting another MLS opportunity. He is a top flight professional who should do very well for the Chicago Fire."

The Charlotte Eagles are currently sitting 4th in the USL PRO standings and need your help to continue their #PlayoffPush so come out this Saturday, July 13th to Queens Sports Complex for a #BlueOut. Wear your best blue outfit and help your Charlotte Eagles continue their #PlayoffPush!
