Richmond Kickers News Release

RICHMOND, VA - (Thursday, April 23, 2015) - The Richmond Kickers conclude a two-game road stand with a match-up against FC Montreal on Saturday, April 25. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m., broadcast live from Stade Saputo at YouTube.com/RichmondKickers. The Kickers return to City Stadium one week later to host the Charleston Battery on Saturday, May 2.

The Kickers continue north to Montreal this weekend after a mid-week clash against the New York Red Bulls II on Wednesday when the visitors edged the MLS-owned side 1-0. Midfielder Brian Ownby notched his first goal of the season when he converted a second half penalty, while a solid defense posted their third consecutive shutout. The three points moved the Kickers into first place in the Eastern Conference standings with a 3-0-2 record to open the 2015 campaign.

Meanwhile, FC Montreal are in search of their first win of the season. Most recently, the USL expansion side suffered a tough 2-1 loss against the Harrisburg City Islanders. Reduced to 10 men in the 11th minute following a red card ejection to Mitchel Bringolf, FC Montreal rallied from a one goal deficit to level the score when Louis Beland-Goyette netted the club's first goal in franchise history just past the half hour mark. After conceding a second goal immediately following the halftime break, Montreal goalkeeper David Paulmin made a heroic save on a second penalty to keep the game within reach but the USL newcomers could not find the equalizer through regulation.

Rivals when the two clubs played in the USL First Division, the Kickers and Montreal meet for the first time in a decade when the Kickers dropped a 2-0 loss in Montreal on July 6, 2005. Montreal returned to USL prior to the 2015 season as the second of eight MLS owned and operated clubs, with a roster comprised predominantly of young Quebec players from the Impact U18 and U23 teams.

Following Saturday's road match, the Richmond Kickers return to City Stadium to host the Charleston Battery on Saturday, May 2, presented by Central Virginia Waste Management Authority. The pre-game party starts at 6pm with live music from Hammersmith, RVA food trucks and craft beer on tap before the game kicks off at 7pm. Tickets are on sale now at RichmondKickers.com.
