Richmond Kickers News Release

RICHMOND, VA - (Monday, September 21, 2015) - The Richmond Kickers clinched the sixth place seed in the Eastern Conference Standings following the weekend's results to earn a berth to the 2015 USL Playoffs. The Kickers will travel to the No. 3 seed Charleston Battery for the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals on Saturday, September 26th. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at MUSC Health Stadium.

The Kickers (10-7-11, 41 points) entered the weekend in fifth place after edging Toronto FC II, 2-1, last Wednesday, but required some help to solidify their place in the postseason. The Kickers needed one of two results to pan out in either the Keystone Derby or the Charlotte Independence's match against the Charleston Battery (12-6-10, 46 points). It turned out that the latter matchup was key as Charlotte (10-8-10, 40 points) fell short of a playoff berth with a 3-1 loss to Charleston to set up the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals match for the Kickers at MUSC Health Stadium.

The other scenario that would have benefited Richmond was if the Harrisburg City Islanders' home match against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds ended in a draw, but Pittsburgh (11-9-8, 41 points) held on for a 2-1 victory to snag a postseason berth and eliminate the City Islanders. With its victory, Pittsburgh earned the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference and a meeting with No. 4 seed the New York Red Bulls II.

The winner of the Charleston / Richmond match will advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals to battle No. 2 seed Louisville City FC while the winner of the New York / Pittsburgh match will take on Regular Season Champions Rochester on Saturday, October 3.
