Kickers On The Road Again

RICHMOND, VA - (Wednesday, May 29, 2002) - The Richmond Kickers (4-1-2, 19 points) will head south again as they prepare to take on the Southeast Division-leading Atlanta Silverbacks (7-1-0, 32 points) this Saturday, June 1st. The Kickers will be looking to duplicate their effort of two weeks ago when they defeated the ‘Backs 2-1, the only loss they've suffered so far this season. Saturday's game will kick off at 6pm at DeKalb Memorial Stadium in Clarkston, GA.

History

The Kickers hold a 9-2-0 record over the Atlanta franchise. This will be the second meeting between the two clubs this year, with the Kickers holding the edge after their 2-1 victory on May 15th. The teams still have two meetings at the University of Richmond Stadium to look forward to. One on July 12th and one on August 17th.

Players to Watch

Kickers: D Ray Goodlett - Excellent effort in 0-0 tie against the Charlotte Eagles on 5/27/02. GK Ronnie Pascale - Secured first shutout of the year with 4 saves against the Eagles. M Tony Williams - Saw first action this year against the Eagles after recovering from a knee injury suffered in the off-season.

Silverbacks: M Brian Piesner - Leads the team in points (11) and is tied for second in the league. D Gilbert Jean-Baptiste - Anchor of a defense that has led the team to a 7-1 start.

Future Capture First Win

The Richmond Kickers Future (1-3-0) defeated the Williamsburg Legacy (1-3-0) 2-1 on Monday, May 27th to claim their first win in the Premier Development League (PDL). The Future will try to build on that win total when they take on the Greenville Lions Premier team this Saturday, June 1st at 2pm at Striker Park. They will then head to Williamsburg to face the Legacy on Sunday, June 2nd in the second of three meetings.
