Richmond Kickers News Release
RICHMOND, VA - (Sunday, November 30, 2008) - Richmond Kickers Indoor of the Premier Arena Soccer League narrowly missed the chance to take the first annual Thanksgiving Shootout title after swapping home wins with the Fredericksburg Generals this weekend. Dropping a 7-4 decision on the road Saturday night, Kickers Indoor claimed a 6-4 victory in Richmond Sunday, in front of a sellout crowd, conceding the trophy on goal differential. Kickers Indoor returns to SCOR next Saturday, December 6th for their inaugural regular season home opener when they host the Winchester Impact at 7:00 pm. Tickets are on sale now for $5.00 per person via RichmondKickers.com.
Taking the field for the first time under the Kickers umbrella, Kickers Indoor led the Generals on Saturday at the half but could not hold out against the home team. Richmond Kickers Future midfielder Andy McIntosh notched a trio of goals while former Richmond Rowdies player Chris Green rounded out the scoreline. With a win necessary in Richmond on Sunday, Kickers Indoor topped their I-95 rivals on a pair of goals by Kickers pro Luke Vercollone, with Green adding his second and third tallies of the weekend. Former pro Kofi Nti added a goal and an assist to take the win but the scoreline was just one goal short to claim this year's Thanksgiving Shootout title. The Kickers and the Generals will meet again during regular season action, in Fredericksburg on January 31st and in Richmond on February 14th.
