Richmond Kickers News Release
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Richmond Kickers (1-2-0) were defeated on the road Sunday night at DRV PNK Stadium by Fort Lauderdale CF (2-2-0). Nil Vinyals scored his first goal for the Kickers in the 75th minute, but Shaan Hundal scored a goal in each half for Fort Lauderdale to see the hosts take the victory.
Five minutes into the match, Emiliano Terzaghi was searching for the opener. Jonathan Bolanos came in to win control of the ball from Aime Mabika and laid the ball off for Juan Pablo Monticelli making a run up the left-wing. He whipped in a cross that ended up hitting off Ethan Hardin. Falling on his back, Terzaghi still managed to get a shot off that Luis Zamudio needed to save.
Two minutes later, Oalex Anderson had a chance of his own that came inches away from finding the back of the net. Luke Pavone fed the ball forward for Anderson as he quickly turned to make his run. Shaking off two defenders, Anderson looked towards the goal as his shot skipped just wide of the Fort Lauderdale net.
Fort Lauderdale found the opening tally in the 20th minute. Hundal received the ball on the right flank and quickly got it inside for George Acosta. Venton Evans made an overlapping run up the right side, as he had a chance on goal that was stopped by Austin Aviza. The ball came loose as Hundal came in to tap it in for the opener.
Looking for the equalizer, Terzaghi kept the pressure on the Fort Lauderdale defense just before halftime. In the 39th minute, Jalen Crisler stepped up to get the ball ahead to the feet of Terzaghi. With space on the right flank, Terzaghi elected to launch a shot that Zamudio could only punch away. A minute later, Vinyals looked ahead to Anderson. The St. Vincent man took three touches before getting it to Terzaghi at the top of the box. He switched feet before getting a shot off that was just wide to the left of the net.
A pair of chances just out of the half nearly had the Kickers level. Vinyals picked up control of the ball and found the space to slot it through to Terzaghi inside the Fort Lauderdale box. The Argentine tried for the one-time effort that was saved. Anderson came in for the follow-up shot that was blocked away by Noah Allen.
Nil Vinyals leveled the score for Richmond for his first goal for the Kickers. Bolanos split two defenders to cut across to the top of the box. He got the ball to Victor Falck, as he kept the ball moving to Vinyals. The Spaniard set his shot, putting it on frame. The Fort Lauderdale keeper looked to be in place to make the save as the ball took a deflection and snuck inside the post for Vinyal's first goal of the season.
Four minutes later, Chris Cole came close to finding the back of the net on his debut. Matt Bolduc was making a run in as two defenders closed in. He turned to find Cole in acres of space. The debutant elected to go for a shot as Zamudio got enough on the ball to slow it down for Hardin to eventually clear.
A second goal for Fort Lauderdale came in the 83rd minute. Acosta sent in a lofted corner kick that found Hundal at the back post. He redirected the ball back towards the goal finding just enough space to get it into the net for the game-winner.
Austin Aviza came up big in stoppage time to maintain the scoreline during the final sequence of the match. Cesar Cuellar found Acosta making a run into the box. Aviza came off his line to deny the shot at the top of the six-yard box.
The Kickers are back at City Stadium Saturday night, May 8 to face South Georgia Tormenta FC, presented by Puritan Cleaners. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET, with gates opening at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at RichmondKickers.com/Tickets.
