RICHMOND, VA - (Thursday, March 24, 2011) - The Richmond Kickers continued preseason training Thursday night with a closed door scrimmage against Virginia Commonwealth University. A flurry of goals by Matthew Delic=E2te, Bobby Foglesong, Evan Harding and newcomer Ryan Heins lifted the Kickers to a 4-1 victory over their collegiate rivals.

The only goal of the first half occurred in the 15th minute when Kickers defender Sascha Görres played a long ball to Delic=E2te in the box. The big forward flicked it on to Foglesong, strategically situated at the left side of the box, who fired a determined strike to the far upper 90.

Twenty minutes after the restart, a defensive miscommunication delivered a bouncing ball into the path of Joey Haboush. The Rams midfielder wasted no time capitalizing on the error and fired with the inside of his foot to the left corner from 15 yards out to level the score.

Soon after, however, the Kickers delivered the knock-out punch with a series of three goals within the last 15 minutes of the match. Midfielder Stanley Nyazamba was instrumental in a pair of tallies, delivering well-placed crosses from the left side of the box on each occasion. First, his inswinger found an unmarked Delic=E2te, dangerously stationed at the far post, where he easily headed the ball on goal. Then, it was Heins who made no mistake when he one-time volleyed the service to the far post.

Then, three minutes before the final whistle, a Kickers quick counter attack left Luke Vercollone in scoring position. His attempt was muffled by the Rams goalkeeper, until an onrushing Harding emerged to tap the ball over the goal line.

The Kickers preseason lineup of closed door scrimmages continues this Saturday, March 26 against the Carolina RailHawks (NASL). The 2011 USL PRO regular season commences in just one week, when the Kickers play host to Orlando City on Saturday, April 2 at City Stadium.
